God saved our lives today.
I’m going to take you back to the start of the day to let the depth of the impact sink in.
I’ve been praying asking to see God move in radical ways. Praying for miraculous encounters.
This morning was our ATL day (Ask the Lord Day aka adventure day)
The prayer on my heart today was thank you for this opportunity to adventure with you (key words: with you) and he showed up and showed out.
The rough draft of our plans included packing into three cars and driving two hours to a volcano, hiking it, then getting pupusas and then heading to a waterfall.
Everything was going according to what we thought today had until we pulled over to take a quick bathroom break and ended up loosing the lead car. Around the corner from where we stopped there was a turn and no service to check the way to go, so we went left. The lead car had gone right. We eventually rerouted a back way to the volcano. And the brakes in our car were starting to be a little sketchy. We drove a few more miles until it was decided to pull over and let the car cool off and try to check out what was going on.
We are on a little dirt road on the side of a mountain and within 10 minutes of us stopping a man pulls up on a motorcycle. He asks us if we are okay, so we explain to him our situation and he tells us he has a friend that is a mechanic and that he can call him if we need. As we are standing there with him waiting for his friend, he starts talking about his testimony of God’s love and grace and provision in his life. Like what?! Without even having to ask. Praise God!!
So his mechanic friend comes, pulls up and tells us he’ll check our brakes for free. Oh, and we find out that he’s a pastor. Crazy!! Common now!!
He tells us that stopping where we did was the grace of God because less than 100 yards from there, around the corner, was a hill that they called “death hill.” Because there have been many people that have driven off the cliff and died because their brakes went out and they were unable to make the sharp turn at the bottom. After telling us this, he starts telling us about the area and about what he and his church are doing there.
He explains how they are surrounded by Pagan communities. They are going into these communities with the hopes of teaching them about God’s love resulting in them choosing to leave Paganistic lifestyle. He also told us how they are doing 3 hour services everyday and all night services on the weekends and he invited us to join (expect a near future blog if we are able to go :))
He told us some of his testimony and talked with a conviction and fear of the Lord I have never seen before. We prayed for him, he prayed for us, we all prayed for our brakes. And on our way we went, following him closely down the hill incase the brakes had a different idea for us. We made it. We’re all alive to tell the story of God’s grace and mercy. And this all happened before 10am of our adventure day.
The thing that continues to blow my mind is the unquestionable knowing that I was supposed to be in that specific car from the time I started praying when I woke up. And the opportunity I had to switch into that car a minute before we left because I wasn’t initially in it.
And yes, laying hands on the car worked, the brakes worked (good enough) to get our Nissan Versa through terrain that is much better suited for a Jeep Wrangler. And no, there isn’t a thing I would change from today. God’s plan is always SO much better.
Something that I’ve been learning and practicing daily is how to live with my hands open. Meaning all that I have and am is the Lord’s. This very much includes my desires, hopes, wants, and something as small as my plans for the day that is ahead. It has been so beautiful to see the world through lenses that are continuing to understand more and more of God’s true character and that are learning to submit to and trust God’s will in everything.
Until next time,
Dios te bendiga!! <3
